There is a lot of talk about “community” these days. Sammy’s Avenue Eatery is a place that epitomizes community and owner Sammy Mcdowell is the winner of our Boost Small Business Contest.

We asked the public to vote on the small business that is making a lasting impact on its employees, customers and neighbors and at the award presentation it became clear why Sammy’s was their choice.

“Thank you for your support and for lifting the Eatery up,” Sammy told a group of passionate supporters who showed up at the restaurant for the celebration.

He went on to say, “We are working hard to infuse the community with something other than the norm and what people have come to expect from the North Side. It’s ok to be nice, smile and say hello – the things we were taught as a child. We are doing those things to make this a neighborhood for everybody to just come and have a good time together.”

Sammy received a plaque and a $3,000 check, which he says will go a long way in boosting his business.
